55+ BC Games Volunteers

The 55+ BC Games is an annual multi-sport competition celebrating active, healthy seniors. This year, Vernon is hosting the games on September 12-16, 2017, and lots of volunteers are needed!

Cribbage Volunteers (9): To keep score, set up at the Schubert Centre, and collect game scores. 

Dragon Boat Beach Crew (20): To help paddlers into and out of dragon boats. Will require standing in the lake to knee height. Volunteers will be able to watch races. 

Drivers (20): Must have a class 4 license and a clean abstract. 

First Aid Attendants (15):  Must have level 1 first aid. 

Marshaling Volunteers (13): To assist at the marshaling area to receive participants, place them in order, and ensure the participants and dignitaries enter and exit in an organized manner for both the opening and closing ceremonies (Sept 13 & 16). 


Photographer/Videographer/Editors (36): A good eye, an adequate camera, and the ability to capture 'action without distraction' are key requirements. Volunteers may be assigned to different venues at different times. Please provide preferences. Photo/video editors may be required. 


Pickleball Referees (30): To referee pickleball games. 


Poster Distributing Volunteers (5): To assist with placing posters around Vernon and Armstrong. 


Security & Special Events Volunteers (25): Must be able to stand for long periods at a time and use a portable radio. Be prepared for bad weather. 


Sport Hosts (20): Each venue will have an information table to provide participants and visitors with information. The attendant will provide information about the venue/sport as well as Vernon and area. Extra training will be provided for this position. 


Swim Meet Timers (20): To operate stop watches, record lap times, record final times. Fill in result sheets for each race with times. 


Tennis Attendant Volunteers (6): To pick up/drop-off equipment from the main tournament site at Marshall Field, welcome players to satellite sites, facilitate games, and phone in the scores. 


Traffic Control Volunteers (25): Must be able to stand for long periods at a time and use a portable radio. Be prepared for bad weather.
